What is the Scriptmatix Faceoff?
The Scriptmatix Faceoff is a recurring writing challenge where writers create a script from the same official challenge brief, submit before the deadline, and compete for ranking, recognition, and Champion status.
How do I enter?
Join Scriptmatix, enroll in the current Faceoff, and write your script inside the platform. Once your draft is ready, submit it through the official Submission Gateway before the deadline.
What do I get when I join?
You get access to Scriptmatix Story Engine, AI writing tools, the current Faceoff challenge brief, and screenplay analysis with your eligible submission. Top writers also have the opportunity to be ranked and featured.
What is included in the challenge brief?
Each Faceoff includes a Protagonist Profile, Format, and a Wild Card. These are the creative ingredients every writer must meaningfully build their script with.

Do I have to follow the challenge brief exactly?
Yes. Your script must meaningfully incorporate the required elements. The Protagonist Profile, Format, and Wild Card should affect the actual story, not just appear as a quick mention.

How long do I have to write?
Each Faceoff runs for a limited writing window. The exact start date, submission deadline, and announcement date will be listed on the Faceoff page inside your Scriptmatix Dashboard after you register.
What kind of script can I submit?
Submit the format assigned for the current Faceoff. Some Faceoffs may focus on shorts, features, TV drama, or TV comedy. The required format will be listed in the challenge brief.
Does my script have to be written in Scriptmatix?
Yes. Faceoff submissions must be written inside Scriptmatix to qualify for review and ranking.
Will I receive feedback?
Eligible submissions include screenplay analysis to help you understand how your script performs in areas like challenge adherence, plot, character, and craft.

How are winners chosen?
Scripts are evaluated based on the official judging criteria, including adherence to the challenge brief, plot, character, and craft. Top scripts are ranked after the submission window closes.
What do winners receive?
Gold winners receive public Champion status, a podcast spotlight, a dedicated blog feature, and promotion through Scriptmatix media channels. Top contenders may also be listed publicly in the rankings.
Do I keep ownership of my script?
Yes. Writers retain ownership of their submitted work.
Can I submit after the deadline?
Late submissions may not be eligible for review, ranking, or winner consideration. Submit before the deadline to qualify.
Is this only for professional screenwriters?
No. The Faceoff is built for serious writers at any level who want structure, momentum, feedback, and a chance to be recognized.
